"Bula" or hello is the most popular word in Fiji. And so we said Bula to Nadi, Fiji on the weekend of May 11th till Tuesday 15th. If anyone has been to Goa,India then Fiji is the Goa of the southern hemisphere albeit without the Feni and Goa sausages. Warm maritime climate, coconut trees , beaches galore and friendly people. If anyone mentioned there was currently a coup in progress with a takeover government in power , one would have to raise ones eyebrows in disbelief. At least in Nadi there was absolutely no sign of it and life and tourism were thriving as normal.
We did find eating expensive, but its understandable what with tourism being such a big money earner for the economy. However travelling by cabs was cheap and honest , with all cabs radio connected and easily available.
On our rounds of the islands we did not come across a single tout trying to make a fast buck or a dishonest cab driver attemting to take us on an unsolicited tour of the city.
The beaches were clean , water a lovely aqamarine blue and the cruise to Beachcomber Island was awesome.
Thought you said you didn't drink. Charmaine has been after me to stop having the occasional glass of beer or cruiser. "If Errol can do it, why can't you? etc etc." Am I glad to see your snap with the beer.
Charmaine will be happy to know I do not drink on a regular basis , but occasionally do have a beer. Here being on holiday , I was having a go at the local brew , Fiji Bitter. Really did enjoy it especially as the weather was warm and we had just sat down for lunch after a walk around the market in Nadi City.
